Monday Miscellany: The Longest Winter
Supper with my darling friend at Barrio Correano (So super delish)
Finally getting these out the door
The spoils from our TRCC fundraiser
Genuinely anything to brighten these winter days
Read above. Lunch at Terroni’s. Desperate times call for desperate (carb laden) measures.
Banana Biscuits
There are mornings (read: hungover mornings) where only a cup of coffee will do. Unfortunately, breakfast is a necessary to curb the feeling of imminent death. On those mornings I somehow have the wherewithal to make these banana biscuits. It’s far too simple so they fall in to the category of assembling rather than baking.
This is what you need:
Bananas
Chocolate Chips
Nilla Wafers
This is what you do:
Melt the chocolate in a double boiler
Cut the bananas in to slices
Place them between two biscuits and coat the edges with the melted chocolate
Put them in the fridge for an hour or so
Pour yourself another cup of coffee and ENJOY.

Essays In Love
Essays in Love is one of those novels that I’ve read approximately ten times and each time I pick it up I feel as though I come to a new level of understanding. It is about two people, who meet on an airplane between London and Paris and rapidly fall in love. So, I mean, already brill.
The narrative however, is an intriguing blend of novel and non-fiction. As in a novel, there are characters and realistic settings, but these are used as a platform for an interrogation in to love in its various facets. From the nuances and subtexts of an initial date to how uncomfortable it can be to disagree with a lover’s taste in shoes, it seems to touch on all the landmark events that are typically part of a modern day romance
De Botton uses everything from political theory to Greek mythology to account for the ways in which rationalize and act out our experiences of love. Trust me when I say that he nails it. Perhaps they resonate a little too much.
Give it a read, you’ll love it not only for the story but also for de Botton’s dry wit and genuine inability to patronize the reader.

Tomato Toast
Tomato toast is my favorite breakfast. With the right bread and a tomato that’s just a little bit raw you can’t go wrong. But do you know what makes it even better? Not buying your seasonings from Shoppers drug mart (Sorry mum).
Stole some brill salt and pep from home and good lord you can taste the difference. Our parents know what they’re on about and we should listen more often.
