D I WHY: Chevron Tote

After my farmer’s market shame I decided that I was going to be a model of diligence when it comes to taking a tote to the grocery store. I have been successful only because I took on the project from hell and now I am determined to ensure that this tote gets enough use to justify the absurd amount of labor I dedicated to it.

Here are the steps:

Find a plain tote in a light colour or if you work in marketing raid the sample closet with reckless abandon.

Remember that you once, one time, and only once, you saw a massive picnic blanket that was painted in a coral chevron and you assumed the following: This is easy, I can do this, pinterest would never lie to me.

Measure a grid on the tote using an old packet of polaroids because remember the days when stationary flowed aplenty in your home? Well, as soon as you left school they cease to exist and no matter how many times you look in your “stuff” drawer one will not appear.

Buy tape from the dollar store because genius and really, is the ability to adhere a necessary component of tape (APPARENTLY NOT)

Mark out a grid watch the tape start to curl up, sigh heavily but do not give up hope.

Cut the edges so that they look pointy and start to paint.

Enjoy the brief respite from feeling like a failure as you drink from the sweet nectar that is colouring within the lines. Let the paint dry. Remove the tape and be surprisingly thrilled at the result.
